How much does a Blue Room cave tour in Curaçao cost?

5 min read

Small boat moored beside a rocky west-coast shore with a dark arch in the cliff at the waterline and bright blue water around it

A trip into the Blue Room starts at €49 per person. For most people the best-priced option is the two-hour Blue Room Cave snorkelling tour with snacks: 4.8 stars from 28 reviews, snorkel gear and a snack included. If you want turtles and a proper lunch, the five-hour trip with pizza costs €89. The most expensive of the clearly priced options is a full west-coast day at €131.76.

Why the cheapest ticket is not the cheapest hour

The two-hour tour costs €24.50 for every hour of the listed duration. The five-hour pizza trip works out at €17.80 an hour and the 4 hours 30 minute Turtle Bay tour at €19.32. The hours are not all the same kind, though: two hours covers the sail out from the harbour at Santa Martha and back as well as the swim in the cave. If the cave is all you want, pay €49 and do not feel short-changed.

What €89 adds

The pizza trip leaves from the same harbour and adds the turtle swim at Playa Piskadó, Sicilian pizza and unlimited drinks, with alcohol served from noon. That is €40 more for three extra hours and a meal. Its score of 4.9 rests on only nine reviews, so it has little track record yet.

The €131.76 day

The west-coast catamaran visits Kokomo Beach, Cas Abao Beach and the cave, and the listing gives 45 minutes of snorkelling at Kokomo, two hours at Cas Abao and 50 minutes in the cave. Breakfast sandwiches, a barbecue lunch, an open bar and fruit are included, and an open-air bus brings you back to the city, listed at 70 minutes. It is €42.76 more than the pizza trip, and it is the one where the cave is one of three snorkel stops. Mobility impairments are listed as not suitable.

The two prices to read twice

The Turtle Bay tour at €86.96 has the lowest rating in the group, 2.8 stars from 189 reviews, which is a long way below the others. The listing text does not say why, so read the recent reviews on the booking page before you pay.

The speedboat trip is the other trap: GetYourGuide’s listing data carries a starting price of €2,108.20 per person for it, which cannot be a per-person fare. The booking page itself shows about US$130 per person, for a trip with a start point that moves depending on how many guests book, an English-speaking guide, and a cruise-pier pick-up. Its page lists drinks, snacks and lunch as included yet also advises bringing cash for beach-side snacks and cocktails, so ask what is covered. Treat the euro figure at checkout as the price.

The Seabob is not a Blue Room tour

A Seabob tour at Tugboat Beach, listed from €123 for one hour, appears in some Blue Room searches. It does not go to the cave; it is covered in the Tugboat Beach guide.

Getting to the harbour

The two Blue Room Cave trips that run from the harbour at Santa Martha on the west coast are the €49 and the €89 ones. The booking page for the pizza trip mentions free parking at Santa Martha Bay, and the two-hour trip’s page asks you to arrive 15 minutes early and follow a dirt road for the last stretch. Without a car you will need a taxi (more in the guide to getting around); if you would rather drive, compare hire cars for Curaçao.

What to book

Book the two-hour Blue Room Cave snorkelling tour at €49 unless you want the turtles and a meal, in which case pay €89 for the pizza trip. Take the west-coast day only if the beaches matter as much as the cave.
